    A series of four decisions came down from the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Wednesday, blocking the Schwarzenegger administration from cutting Medi-Cal reimbursements or the state's contribution to wages for In-Home Supportive Services workers.

  • Lawmakers Mull Cuts to Immigrant Services

    Gov. Schwarzenegger has proposed eliminating Medi-Cal benefits and other public assistance programs for some immigrants. The Legislature rejected similar plans last year.

  • Adult Day Health Care Centers Threatened

    Medi-Cal cuts could lead to the closure of 327 adult day health care centers throughout California.  The Schwarzenegger administration says the cuts are needed to help bridge the budget gap, but advocates say the state will face higher costs elsewhere as a result.

    The California Senate has sent a bill aimed at creating a single-payer health care system to the Assembly, but Gov. Schwarzenegger already has pledged to veto the legislation.  Editorial boards and a hospital industry leader also have criticized the measure.
